Carlin and Comedy

Friends, I have NOT been doing a job job with my nightly reflections these past few weeks.  I think I have been allowing my work to overwhelm me in many ways and hundreds of emails and tickets and meetings and pings (etc) has really caused me to get out of my routines.  BUT, this weekend things have been a little more "normal."  Yesterday, I got back to swimming (YES!) and today, the 149th day of 2022, I actually was catching up on a lot of pending tasks.  Sarah and Alexa went to the beach on 5/29/2022 and Anna was working at Sapori so that left me home, alone, to get things done but also, alone, and you know how much I like being alone.  So I was streaming while I worked and I streamed the 2-part HBO documentary on George Carlin.  I cannot recommend it enough.  It was great.  And I learned a lot about the man.  I was always aware of his comedic genius, I mean I still use a lot his jokes in my vernacular (my favorite is "I'm not unwell" when someone asks me how I am).  But I learned what an empathetic man he was, what a family-oriented man he was, what a flawed man he was.  And, I guess, I related.  I am also a flawed, family-oriented, empath who uses humor to diffuse situations.  And, no, I am not in to the substances as he was, but I think, in a way, we are very much cut from the same cloth.  So, tonight, by Two-For 2022 are Carlin and Comedy.  The bits he was performing 30 years ago are still relevant today.  Especially with all of the initiatives that seem to be brewing in politics: war, the removal of rights, corruption, etc.  Either he was a man ahead of his time with vision on what would happen in the future, or very little has changed in the past 30-40 years.  OR maybe both.  But I think I am going to look for a few more of his specials and maybe listen again, as I used to on my parents' record player, to "A Place for My Stuff."  He was a brilliant man, and I wish he were still here today to needle those in power who surely need it.
